Building Tools for Facilitation
In the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom™, teachers thoughtfully plan for the deliberate and purposeful structures and strategies to facilitate their instruction. This screencast explores the stages of active facilitation, and provides tools to gather formative assessment data to drive instructional decisions.
MediaLearning vs. Practice Activities
In the conventional approach to teaching, teachers present content to the whole class and then provide students with independent practice activities. Ongoing research continues to support the need to differentiate instruction and engage students more actively in learning. As teachers move from the front of the room to take a more facilitative approach to teaching, they sometimes forfeit the whole-class lesson, but then only provide students with the same practice activities they used in the past. In this situation, the learning period is lost. Instead, teachers need to provide students with activities from which they will learn.
MediaTeacher as Ferry vs. Teacher as Bridge
The metaphor of teacher as ferry vs. teacher as bridge builder illustrates a significant paradigm shift in the role of the teacher in the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom™.
